A couple of years ago I was introduced to the sport of Stand Up Paddle boarding by radio presenterTammy B and I was hooked. I fell in love with the feeling of gliding on water and I enjoy the social aspect of this sport. After that first day out on a board with Tammy, I joined SUP Cape Town (located on the canal next to the CTICC).
SUP CAPE TOWN provide introductory lessons and board rentals. During the summer months they also rent boards on Clifton 4th beach, December to February. Their second club has now opened at Intaka island Century City.I often rent boards so I can take my family and friends out for a fun activity when they’re in town. Its such an easy activity to pick up, I found that the bigger the board the easier for balance. I recently tested out The Mistral inflatable SUP which is available from SUP Cape Town, this is the perfect board for family use. Being an inflatable makes it the ideal travelling partner.
Here are benefits of Stand Up Paddle boarding:
• It’s a low impact exercise.
• Good Cardio and full body workout
• The unstable board is what makes it such an good workout to strengthen core and builds balance
• It connects you with nature and a fun social activity.
So if you’re looking for a new hobby, why not join them every Thursday for the City Slickers time trial at SUP Cape Town Clubhouse. The time trial is open to anyone, regardless of paddling ability. There are three distances to chose from, either the 1.5km route, 3km route or the 4.5km route.
Happy Paddling!
xoxo
